 Family Vacation In Morocco:
An Electrifyingly Sensual Experience

Morocco promises for an epic adventure for kids with a conglomeration of snow-capped mountains, ancient cities, wide-open sandy deserts, and an impressive culture. Here you have a city of carpets and camels and colors right out of Disney’s Aladdin movies, and you know immediately how kids are going to fall for it.

When we think of Africa, we usually think about safaris, but this is a country that threads the rich culture of the Middle East with the nomadic culture of the Sahara. Travel planning is quite easy too, and with Morocco sitting within a stone’s throw of Europe, your kids will never be bored by that long and circuitous journey towards the heartland of the continent. It will be a short trip, but sweet and memorable.

"Kids would learn about exotic cultures and catch a glimpse of medieval cities."

Without a doubt, Morocco with kids is a fascinating and endearing journey. Your kids will fall in love with their camel-back caravan odyssey through the desert. Not only is it a unique experience, it’s also really easy to do. If you have kids who’d rather learn about exotic cultures and catch a glimpse of 1,000-year-old medieval cities than visit a packed beach, then Morocco should be your destination of choice.

"Morocco is truly a photographer’s dream come true."

It's truly a photographer’s dream come true. Ask anyone who’s visited Morocco, and one thing they’ll all agree on is how very electrifying the country is. In most places, a walk is not just a walk, it’s also one that continuously floods all your senses.

This is also one of those places where family vacations will need to be much carefully planned. Even professional photographers visiting the country for the first time could easily be overwhelmed by the many feelings Morocco is able to engender.

 Marrakesh With Kids:

Land Where Fables Are Made

If there’s one place in this magical land of medieval mysteries that ought to be a mandatory visit for all families, it’s the city of Marrakesh (also spelled Marrakech). But this is also the most popular tourist vacation spot of Morocco, so crowd density here is something to contend with, especially when traveling with family and kids.

As you stand in the middle of Jemaa el-Fnaa and look around you, you see a market that had been woken up from its slumber from time immemorial by a genie’s wand.

During the day, kids will especially love the impromptu magic and circus shows in the wide-open bazaar. At night, they’ll love the scrumptious street food.

"The highpoint is when your family gets to mingle with the villagers and share food with the local Berber population."

While verdant valleys, high mountains, quaint villages, and picturesque plantations are all visible on the way, the highpoint is when your family gets to mingle with the villagers and share food with the local Berber population.

 Camel Rides With Kids:

The Grand Desert Adventure

Even if your kids have ridden camels before this is going to be a completely unique experience considering that the continent is Africa and that the desert is Sahara, by far the largest in the world.

Camels are submissive creatures and riding next to its hump while it plods along showing you this spectacular view of the sand dunes is going to be a dream come true. There’s plenty to do at nighttime too: families can take drumming lessons, stay the night in Bedouin tents, and relax while enjoying a cup of mint tea. If you'd like more excitement, make sure you join in with the locals at their nightly fireside chat.

Fes With Kids:

The Ultimate Labyrinth

Out of all the labyrinthine cities of Morocco (and trust us, the competition is stiff), the king of haphazard complexity emerges as Fes. Here, without a guide, there is no hope to find the way for even the best navigators among us. Many of the young adults roaming the streets are more than happy to serve as your family guide in exchange for a few dirhams.

"The sprawling souks are a testament to the richness of traditions imbibed in the heart of the city."

It’s here that you’ll find the “Fes hats” that have become so famous around the world. The sprawling souks are a testament to the richness of traditions that are imbibed in the heart of any Moroccan city.

 Chefchaouen With Kids:

Feel The Blues

Even though the blueness around you is only your perception of a specific wavelength of light, you’d be excused for feeling that drowning sensation in the intensely blue high seas. Chefchaouen is not to be missed! Kids will love the ambience, and the place is complete with real-life imageries of a movie made by none other than the Disney franchise, complete with live peacock and street circus.

"You'll be rewarded by one of the dreamiest cities you'll ever get to see in your lifetime."

The city is nestled on the mountainside, and with steep steps going up and down the entire place, it will test the endurance level of most adults. But if that is something you’re willing to risk, you and your family would be rewarded by one of the dreamiest cities you'll ever get to see in your lifetime.

 Visiting The Beaches With Kids:

Essaouira’s Blue Boats

Only within a couple of hours’ drive from Marrakesh is the superbly picturesque port town of Essaouira, meaning you can definitely take a day-trip to this town without hearing a single complaint from your kids about how they’re bored. It’s a perfect location for some family fun on the seashore which I’m sure your kids will be dying to have. Like most towns of Morocco, this too has a choice of color that it adopts: blue. And it suits it so well that among the many of the families visiting this place a significant proportion happen to be photographers. Nearby stands the towering white Fortress of Mogador, complete with canons and motes against whose walls the waves of the Atlantic come crashing down. The family can hang out at the top to get a panoramic view of the city and the ocean as the kids will enjoy peeking out of the round port holes. Later, you can roam the peer for hours, appreciating the view of the blue boats and the fishermen bringing in their catches. I can already see in my mind’s eye how the kids will be truly ecstatic hopping between boats and see the fishermen at work. Make sure you plan well: a trip to Essaouira should be quite a surreal experience for each and every member of the family.

So, Morocco is an incredibly unique kind of country that’s very different from any others you might have on your family vacation list in the African continent. It adores kids, is quite safe, and makes for an extraordinary exotic and photogenic destination. Rather than “wow” you with its game animals, it will let you soak in its culture, architecture, and ethos in a way that feels no different from the stories of medieval times you’ve come across so many times in your imagination. Intense yet family-friendly, a trip to Morocco with kids will earn you a vacation like no other.
